MassMutual Foundation brings FutureSmart Challenge to Chicago
Chicago, IL, – The MassMutual Foundation’s FutureSmart Challenge and Chicago Bulls brought together middle school students from Chicago schools to talk financial education.
The MassMutual Foundation’s FutureSmart Challenge is a national program that provides financial education to middle school students and offers them the opportunity to learn skills needed to make sound choices for their personal financial futures. At this event, students participated in an educational seminar hosted by award-winning actor and best-selling author Hill Harper and learned about the importance of smart money management, why a higher education is essential to their financial success, and the difference between “smart money” and “dumb money.”
Students also heard from NBA legend Bill Wennington who shared his opinions on education, careers and finances. Benny and the Elevators as well as the Incredibulls also provided engaging entertainment.
Following the FutureSmart Challenge, students who participated will be taught Junior Achievement classroom curriculum led by local MassMutual representatives and Junior Achievement affiliate volunteers.
“MassMutual Illinois is proud to work with the MassMutual Foundation to expand financial education in our community through the FutureSmart Challenge,” said Jennifer des Groseilliers, CEO and Owner of MassMutual Illinois. “It’s important that our young future leaders feel empowered to take positive steps toward a successful career and financial security for themselves, their families and their communities.”
The MassMutual Foundation has committed nearly $2 million to the FutureSmart Challenge in 2018 and will reach 10,000 middle school students this year. Since its inception in 2014, the program has reached over 42,000 students.
